Interesting industry news from the fast-food giants McDonald's. As part of its company wide sustainability strategy, they have announced the investment in new sustainable employee uniforms.
These new team uniforms have been created using CiClo technology, which allows synthetic materials, like polyester, to biodegrade following a similar timeline to natural fibers, like wool.
Polyester uniforms are generally preferred by fast-food companies, however as they are being created and washed, they shed plastic microfibers, which more often than not, end up disrupting natural ecosystems.
CiClo technology is a trademarked texile ingredient, that has been added to these uniforms alongside traditional polyester. This texile ingredient is then activated when exposed to moisture, meaning it can be used in a durable manner without damaging the environment too much.
A big step in the right direction for McDonald's to become more sustainable.
